Karen Nordin, Coach and Director of the Parkland Therapeutic Riding Association in Yorkton, SK was one of the recipients of the Canada 150 Community Volunteer Award in 2017.

Cathay Wagantall, Member of Parliament for the Yorkton-Melville area presented The Canada 150 Community Volunteer Award to individuals from 15 Saskatchewan communities on October 22, 2017. Recipients of the special Canada 150 Medal were recognized as community leaders from non-profit groups and organizations who volunteer to make their community work—not for what they'll get back, but because their habit is to quietly give back. Because of them, our communities are healthier, richer, and kinder; more fun and more beautiful. Karen Nordin, Coach and Director of Parkland Therapeutic Riding Association was one of the recipients. The following is quoted from the presentation ceremony:

"Twenty-five years ago, Karen's love of horses and awareness of their therapeutic power spurred her to help establish the Parkland Therapeutic Riding Association. Donating years of time, tack, feed, horses and the generous use of her ranch facility, she has enabled countless handicapped and disables participants to experience the joy and healing power of the horse/human relationship."

Each person being acknowledged was nominated by their peers for selfless service to their communities or organizations.
