The 2017 Canadian National Arabian and Half Arabian Championship Horse Show was held August 13-19 in Brandon, Manitoba. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the show, and Arabian horse enthusiasts and their horses travelled from all over Canada and the United States to participate in this event. Saskatchewan was well represented this year with both amateur and professional exhibitors in a wide variety of classes, from In-Hand to Ranch Riding to Dressage. Congratulations to Amber Hrynkiw, the recipient of the Dr Byrnne Rothwell Memorial Scholarship for 2017. This award is presented in the memory of Dr Byrnne Rothwell in recognition of the contributions he made to the equine industry within the province of Saskatchewan.
Congratulations to Toni-Anne Saworski of Grandora, Saskatchewan, on achieving her English Rider Level 9 & 10 (Hunter/Jumper) certification. Not only is she the first rider in Ontario to achieve this level of recognition, she is also the first in Canada to do so!
Diamond League Western hosted the World Para Reining International Championships July 4-9 in Ermelo, Netherlands, with 6 different countries competing at the Dutch National Equine Center. Para Reiner Janice Boucher of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease 3 years ago, represented Team Canada alongside teammate Lauren Barwick of Langley, BC. As the show provided live feed, family and friends were able to watch and cheer from home.
